Head Pain & Neck Pain

Head and neck pain

Both headaches and neck pain can be debilitating problems. Life is on hold when the pain is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and overbearing. Although headaches and neck pain are extremely common, the origin of these issues can be difficult to pinpoint and treat. It is common for people with chronic headaches to have seen multiple physicians and to have undergone a variety of diagnostic measures and treatments. Many patients have invested a tremendous amount of time and money on oral medications, epidural steroid injections, acupuncture, massage, and chiropractic therapy to name a few without sustained success. Performing at the office, playing golf, interacting with the kids and family, enjoying the amusement parks, swimming, horseback riding, dancing, skating, skiing, jogging, working out, aerobics, yoga, any kind of sports, and even cooking are some of our favorite things to do that will be affected by headache and neck pain.

Head Pain and Migraine Pain Is Not Always What It Seems

Headache and neck pain are sometimes hard to pin down. What many people, and even some doctors, don’t realize is that these issues can be directly related. Many patients who have been diagnosed with migraine headaches may not actually be suffering from migraines at all. Severe headache pain can originate in the upper cervical region.

The pain is then transferred up into the head creating the severe headache pain. Many people with this type of headache have a history of minor or severe motor vehicle accidents. Other trauma such as impact from contact sports could contribute as much as a slip and fall at home with the family. This trauma leads to damage that occurs in what is called the facet joints of the spine. A patient may recover from the initial affects of the injury within a few weeks or months. However, these damaged joints can become arthritic over time and other related symptoms may not develop for years.

Head Pain and Neck Pain Management and Treatment

The good news is that these issues can be diagnosed through testing, history and physical examination. Once a diagnosis is made it can often be treated with facet injections, an invasive pain management technique.

At BACAS we see patients with these chronic pain symptoms every day, some of which have lost all hope of improvement, and treat them successfully.
